“I Was Really Fat…”
I wanted to do a little roundup of this year’s most memorable political ads — for better and for worse — but none could match this masterpiece from Cruz Bustamante’s unsuccessful 2006 California Insurance Commissioner campaign. Bustamante ran a one dimensional campaign, running almost entirely on the story his own weight loss (sound familiar, Mike Huckabee?), claiming that he lost more than 70 pounds and that that would translate to political success. “I was really fat,” he says in the beginning of the ad. “I promised my family I would lose 70 pounds. I kept that promise. I’ll keep this promise: I’ll lower your insurance rates.”
Watch some of this season’s highlights
Left to right, top to bottom:
Mike Huckabee beats the dead horse that is Chuck Norris; Ron Paul supporters prove that libertarians can’t act; Mike Gravel throws a rock; Bill and Hill parody the Sopranos finale to the tune of “Don’t Stop Believin’”; Romney parody of Huckabee’s Chuck Norris ad; Bill Richardson job interview

Here’s a link to Weekend America’s story on the Mike Gravel video, which is pretty funny: http://weekendamerica.publicradio.org/display/web/2007/06/23/the_rock_video/
To be honest, the clintons’ video is the only one that displays any wit - but its pretty poorly executed. Neither of them can act - put its pretty crazy to imagine them going to a diner and not getting mobbed. Like Bill Clinton is just another overweight husband or something.
It’s the MONETARY system, stupid! Printing money out of thin air!
