i considered gene an acquaintance here and oakland and kept in touch with him when he moved to chicago. he is now back here in oakland and i think its pretty fucked he played his “death” as a publicity stunt. kind of desperate for attention if you ask me. i do enjoy his dancing on street corners though and he is nice in conversation. the death stunt is fucked though. i just saw him dancing on the corner in front of the whole foods on harrison about 45 minutes ago here in oakland so he is definitely still alive and dancing.

For the past month, the campaign has sagged. Obama peaked, then the criticism of him as a hopemonger with legions of crazed obamabots at his back peaked. Me personally, I haven’t been feeling that same doped-up-on-hope feeling that I had around the time of his 11 contest winning streak.

But with this speech, I don’t mind saying that the hope is back. This was clear, unequivocal, and decisive on the issues surrounding wright and ferraro - but also nuanced, delicate, and precise.

I can’t speak personally to how well he spoke to the black experience in America (though my gut says DAMN fuckin well) but I think that he characterized very well a lot of the fears latent in the - especially liberal - white community. Fear of crime, ignorance and hatred coming out of the especially down and out black communities, the fear of job losses to affirmative action, and the fear of being racist, and the fear of seeming racist - these plague the white communities that I’ve been in.

Then the challenge he makes to the white community - to allow that the problems that black people face in this country are the results of slavery, not laziness - though it has been said before, it needs to be repeated over and over.

And the point is really, that no one is off the hook here - that we don’t get racial reconciliation “on the cheap” by electing Obama. But we won’t let other politicians, or the chattering class, or anyone, really, to allow these issues of race and opportunity to scatter and destroy Barack Obama’s campaign.

I cant believe I’m actually wasting my time on this but I feel I must say something:
I know Gene pretty well. Hung with him for a couple of years. Those of you who believe him to be dead are fooled. Those of you who think he is a “happy-go-lucky” guy are fooled. Gene is a sad clown. He has serious mental issues and worse drug problems. Ever notice that he sweats more than a marathon runner? Think about the drugs you may have done…what makes you sweat like a stuck pig in a sauna?
Ever notice he never spends quality time in private with anyone? Thats because he is afraid of the truth being seen.
He is embarrassing himself and his family. A family that worked hard so that he could what, not have a job, do drugs on a street corner all day in his underpants, so that when the high is wearing off, he can get into his Saab to scamper off and re-up on those drugs? Get real.
Self destruction, acting out, never letting people close, cutting off those that do, these are signs of asking for help.
Prophets know themselves. Gene is afraid of himself and everyone else. I hope that if someone who is close to him reads this, that you encourage him to seek drug/mental counseling.
Gene, if you read this, please find help. You probably wont because I’ve experienced the massive force of your juggernaut ego. This is coming from an old pal.
The universe has a way of balancing itself. If you keep this up, you will certainly fall. Eventually you will run out of time. No one will care anymore about your underpants, and you will be alone. You speak of love but you do not love yourself or anyone else. When is the last time you stuck your neck out for someone. Helped someone in need? Dancing may be a religion but The Way is found in vulnerable courage, servitude and compassion.
For those that may get close to Gene: watch yourself. He is known to become violent (I have seen it first hand), vindictive and two faced. There is a reason he always wears sunglasses….

AEC: that’s it exactly. He falls into this because he’s not arguing any point in particular, he just came on the show as the ‘counter point man’ for whatever racial issues were going to be discussed, so in keeping with his role, he just spouted whatever he thought would go against the grain.

To me, that point about BO surging after “bad Bubba” was unleashed is a legitimate argument, but yeah, that’s not what Gerrie was saying at all.

AEC, the Commercial Challenge sounds interesting, but I sure hope the winning ad doesn’t get condemned by the Senate, like another little MoveOn.org ad. (Hint: What rhymes with “General Petraeus”?)

But no, I’m not that gung-ho on the Challenge. I just really don’t like making ads.

Thanks for the tip, though! I’m curious to see what people come up with. Plus, it’s just cool that all those celebs are judging it.

Buchanan lost his cool when that woman tried to pull a “Matthews” on him by stepping on him when he was talking to prevent him from making his point. She was rude, and he was rude right back. So what’s the problem?

Yeah, the “shut up” was definitely not the most interesting part of that post - but he did just get his ass handed to him by Keli Goff. She makes a point I haven’t heard enough in this ferraro flap - that Obama was losing the “black vote” to clinton until Bill stuck his big red nose in it.

(Now, to be fair, Ferraro was NOT saying that BO was getting the black vote because he’s black, which seems to be the bone of contention in the clip. She was saying that he appeals to us liberal-latte-upper-crusties because he’s black - I think.)

Pat sometimes seems to forget what point he’s making and why’s he making it, as he tumbles into the various ass-kickings I’ve seem him get. Keli Goff though, she wouldn’t shut up, and good on her for it. she totally rocked tha p-buck.
